Safe distance

Lashes and eyes

Last night I woke up to the noise of my windows jangling, the mild but annoying collisions between the jambs (the vertical part) and the sill. I tried to fasten the latch, but the noise didn’t quite stop. I started rubbing my eyes, instinctively and a lash went into my eye.

You know how it gets with lashes and eyes. You can’t even breathe till you get that tiny strand of hair out of your eye. Sometimes it feels like a tiny dagger. I had to turn the light on to strain my already strained eye (you know because of the hair) and I had to get this lash out.

A particularly uncomfortable ordeal at 3AM. Once I got the hair out, I thought to myself if it would make sense to not have lashes at all. I rejected the thought. Lashes are too romantic. They grant wishes, and give shade to lovers according to many Bollywood lyricists. People get contraptions to get those tiny hairs to do things.

Hmm. Lashes are important even if it means they get in the way of sweet slumber sometimes.

It is the apparel of the eyes.

Lashes without eyes. Terrifying.

Eyes without lashes. Hm yes but pass.

Eyes and lashes at a safe distance. A thing of dreams, for the movies.

Eyes and lashes at a safe distance. A precedent for all relationships.

Beautiful when not in each other’s business.

Obliterated when in each other’s business.

A lesson in boundaries. and distance.

I like to eat, read, talk about what I’ve read and visit small cities. Overall pretty basic and easily confused.
